The Government and people of Timor‑Leste pay warm tribute to John Pilger, a journalist whose courage, compassion and commitment to truth helped Timor‑Leste’s story reach the world. During the struggle for self-determination, he listened with respect, amplified Timorese voices and stood with the Timorese people in moments of great difficulty. His films and reporting brought clarity where there was confusion, and hope where it was scarce, encouraging countless friends of Timor‑Leste to offer support and solidarity.
We remember John Pilger not only for his professional excellence but for his humanity: his belief that every person deserves dignity, safety and a future. His legacy lives on in the freedoms Timor‑Leste enjoys today and in the inspiration he gives to journalists and human rights defenders everywhere.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues. Obrigadu barak, John.
